Romelu Lukaku continued to misfire in big games for Man United, as his drought in the Premier League was prolonged after a blistering start to the season.

A lot was expected out of Lukaku in the mega Manchester derby at Old Trafford, but the Belgian international failed to give a good account of himself. He not only was culpable in both of City’s goals, but had a lackluster performance throughout the game.

Lukaku almost grabbed an equalizer for the hosts in the final stages, but Ederson produced a remarkable double save to win the tie for City by the scoreline of 2-1.

City are now 11 points ahead of their arch-rivals United, and many fans and pundits feel the title race is already over, as Pep Guardiola’s side looks like the favourites for the honour.

And with the manner in which United showed up in the high-voltage encounter, fans did not spare the former Everton striker, who joined United over the summer for a mammoth fee.

Lukaku was at fault for David Silva’s opening goal, and then somewhat gifted Nicolas Otamendi the second goal after the half-time to give them the momentum after Marcus Rashford had earlier cancelled out Siva’s opener.

The Belgian’s form is a worry, and after Lukaku proving to be ineffective in front of goal, with United threatening very little throughout the top of the table clash, very few fans were impressed with the striker’s performance.

The United fans took to social media site Twitter to vent out their disappointment and anger over Lukaku.

Lukaku played for City yesterday. Gave them two goals. City created nothing.

Romelu Lukaku had his chances today and messed all of them up. Not what you expect from a £75m striker. José Mourinho needs to drop him now. Not good enough.

There are rumours that Lukaku was involved in a tunnel bust up against Man City last night.

He tried to kick Pep twice but ended up kicking Jose twice instead.

The Red Devils next face a mid-week clash against Bournemouth at home in the Premier League, and with their title dreams seeming all but over, the next target would be to stay inside the top four.
