Manchester United are on the lookout for a star signing in the January transfer window to give themselves a chance to bolster their squad for the remainder of the season.

Despite the fact that United seemed to have a real shot at the Premier League title at the start of the season, their hopes have now faded, with rivals Manchester City bossing the scenario and being on the verge of sealing the honour under Pep Guardiola.

The Red Devils continue to stay 2nd in the table, but recent set of results prove that they miss the edge in the attacking third, and are in dire need of signings.

Back in the summer window, Jose Mourinho did miss out on Ivan Perisic, but was otherwise happy to add three crucial players to his side. The Portuguese also took his total spending to a mammoth sum of close to £300m in over 18 months in charge.

One position that Jose is keen to improve the most is the No. 10, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan being unable to live up to the standards required at Old Trafford.

Other players have contributed in flashes, but striker Romelu Lukaku has been denied regular service, which has also affected his personal goal-scoring form.

Amid these problems at the Theatre of Dreams, Juventus forward Paulo Dybala is being linked with a move to Manchester.

According to a report in The Sun, the Italian champions have even revealed the sum of £86m could tempt them to sell the player, after having already rejected a lower bid from the Premier League outfit.

Dybala’s versatility is well versed, and Jose is keen on signing the Argentine international. The club is also planning to offload Mkhitaryan in order to open up a first-team spot for Dybala to fill.

OFFICIAL: Bayern Munich Announce First Big January Transfer

REUTERS/Kai Pfaffenbach

Bayern Munich have confirmed that Hoffenheim centre-forward Sandro Wagner will return to his boyhood club in January.

The German striker has been given the No. 2 shirt at Bayern, and his two-and-a-half year contract will keep him at the Allianz Arena until 2020.

The 30-year-old striker is a Munich native, and was also a part of the Bayern Munich academy. He spent 13 years at the club between 1995 and 2008, making 4 appearances. However, lack of first team action meant he left for Duisburg in search of regular football.

A delighted Wagner was thrilled upon his return, and commented: “A long journey has come to an end for me. I’m back home, back at my club in my hometown.

“I’m really happy that it’s all worked out. Bayern are the best team in Germany and one of the best in the world. I didn’t have to think long when the offer came in.”

Wagner has been impressive for Hoffenheim, having found the back of the net 15 times in 42 appearances since he joined the club in the summer of 2016.

Such form also earned him a place in the national team under the Joachim Low. The striker has netted 5 goals in the 7 caps he has won for Germany, and looks certain to feature for the Germans in the World Cup in Russia next year.

Meanwhile, at Bayern, Wagner will only be used as a backup for Robert Lewandowski, but he shall be a crucial signing nonetheless, as hinted by the Bavarian outfit’s sporting director, Hasan Salihamidzic.

“A Germany international is joining FC Bayern in the form of Sandro Wagner. We’re convinced Sandro has the class and experience to improve the quality of our squad,” Salihamidzic stated upon the completion of the deal.

Speaking to ManUtd.com, the Irish international said: “Since I joined United, it has been everything I expected it to be. The club gives you all the guidance that you need from experienced coaches to improve every single day.”

However, the youngster has no illusions about the sheer enormity of the task ahead of him should he wish to make a concrete mark on the club, as he adds:

“But I know that the hard work has just started and that I need to continue to listen and give everything in training and the matches we have coming up. I know I’m at the right place to continue my development as a young player and I’m thrilled to have signed a new contract.”

Earnest supporters will be eager to potentially see him get some first-team action and give a glimpse of what he might be capable of.

With an array of phenomenal goalkeepers to boast of, ranging from Peter Schmeichel and Edwin van der Sar to David De Gea, have United ensured another shot-stopping giant will continue on in their ranks?

Another Deal? Reason Why Man Utd Want Mkhitaryan To Return To Dortmund

Reuters / Darren Staples

The glimmer that Henrikh Mkhitaryan brought to the spectators of his antics early on in the season is swiftly turning into a decisive discard.

With Jose Mourinho all but removing him from any playing action whatsoever, fans too have begun to consider the Armenian a Red Devil no more. As of such, his next destination might have a much bigger role to play for United than it would seem so at face value.

Currently, Inter Milan and Borussia Dortmund are the sides most touted to rescue the player from the clutches of the United bench, but the Mancunian side may have an ulterior reason for wishing Dortmund makes the final swoop.

According to Independent, Man Utd are hoping for Borussia Dortmund to sign Mkhitaryan back due to a motive of their own.

The Bundesliga side also houses Julian Weigl, who very recently emerged on United’s radar. The source believes that this piece of business could potentially ease out a deal for the young talent.

While a swap move for an emerging 22-year-old with a form-shy 28-year-old does appear absurd, perhaps the transfer won’t be of that nature.

With clubs in the past having made numerous transfers with the intention of establishing good rapport which later on aids in gaining a favorable transfer, a similar move could be in the works here too.

Further, it does beg the question as to why the Red Devils would require another holding midfielder despite possessing Nemanja Matic, whose presence alone has had a positive catalyzing influence on the club so far this season.

With the signing of the youngster, perhaps Mourinho is seeking to reinforce that position for years to come, or maybe a shuffle of tactics is in place, which badly requires a spare player of his talents.

Either way, a signing must never be made solely because a player is available, as Mkhitaryan’s stint in England seems to be in retrospect, and supporters will be eager to see where the future of these two players will lie.

Romelu Lukaku continued to misfire in big games for Man United, as his drought in the Premier League was prolonged after a blistering start to the season.

A lot was expected out of Lukaku in the mega Manchester derby at Old Trafford, but the Belgian international failed to give a good account of himself. He not only was culpable in both of City’s goals, but had a lackluster performance throughout the game.

Lukaku almost grabbed an equalizer for the hosts in the final stages, but Ederson produced a remarkable double save to win the tie for City by the scoreline of 2-1.

Premier League Sides Considering Moves For Bundesliga Left-Back

Philipp Max has been showcasing remarkable performances in the German league, which is evidently the sound basis for the interest registered by multiple English giants over the past few weeks.

The 24-year-old joined FC Augsburg on a two-year contract with an option to extend the agreement in 2015, for a reported fee of €3.6 million.

Later on, the German savoured the taste of a silver medal as part of Germany’s 2016 Olympic squad and has been dazzling scouts with his exceptional form in the Bundesliga, mostly during this year’s campaign.

In view of his consistency and increasing number of assists, the versatile left-back has been praised for a place in Germany’s World Cup squad.

Provided the fact that he can operate in an even advanced role, Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham had marked their interest in the defender.

Jose Mourinho has been pursuing multiple left-backs, and the German could be the apt player to contribute his services to the Old Trafford outfit.

Everton have also assigned scouts to monitor the decorated defender, as Premier League sides consider their options for what is becoming a well-demanded position, according to the Daily Mail

Speculations aside, the player has his current contract extending till 2022, with his value increasing with time. Furthermore, it’s still uncertain whether Max is looking for a transfer as of now. He is seemingly contentful with the football he’s receiving at Augsburg.

Saturday’s clash between Arsenal and Man Utd confirmed two things- the Red Devils are still in the title race and Paul Pogba will miss the Manchester Derby.

But according to the United academy graduate, he will still play a big role in the build up for the exciting tie.

During the Gunners’ 1-3 hammering by the hands of Jose Mourinho’s men, Pogba’s late challenge that struck his studs into Hector Bellerin’s knee saw him being showed a direct red card.

And so, Andre Marriner’s booking ruled the Frenchman out for the next three domestic fixtures for his side, including the clash against the Sky Blues.

However, the former Juventus star still believes he can help his squad win the match through mental motivation. The midfield maestro wants to be a positive influencer on his teammates in hopes of getting them focused on winning the fixture.

“Unfortunately, I won’t play [against City], but I’ll be there to help the team mentally. To win those games, you need to give everything. You need to be there offensively and defensively,” the French international told official Man Utd website.

“Mentally, I need to be there to boost the team and, hopefully, it will help. I have complete trust in the team. Even if I’m not there, I’ll be there watching the game, giving positive energy and, hopefully, we’re going to win,” he added.

“We want to win. We need to win as well. They need to win because they know that we are behind and we are closing and closing.”

The Old Trafford outfit are still a whopping 8 points behind Pep Guardiola’s still-unbeaten side, who recently equalled Arsenal’s record of 13 straight Premier League wins.

With the 25-year-old getting downgraded to a mere spectator for one of the biggest games of the season, Mourinho will surely be looking to strengthen his side’s midfield and will be glad about Nemanja Matic’s availability.

On the other hand, Phil Jones might also make a comeback this weekend, which may offer some reassurances to the United faithful before the derby.
