Manchester United announcing that they had reached an agreement with Shakhtar Donetsk for midfielder Fred brought a lot of happiness amongst the club’s supporters.
The 25-year-old Brazilian is a sheer talent, and is expected to play alongside Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba in a three-man midfield in the 2018-19 season.
United have done their first major business this summer, as Jose Mourinho looks to identify more missing pieces in his squad.
What has really excited the fans about Fred is his performance against United five years ago in a Champions League encounter over two legs.

During Shakhtar’s 0-0 draw against the Mancunian club, Fred excelled throughout the game. In a video uploaded on YouTube, the player is seen giving his all and making some promising runs in attacking areas.
His ball retention and tackles too need to be highlighted, besides the composure shown on the ball.
Fred also displayed his strong passing ability, which shows how suitable a replacement he would be for the evergreen Michael Carrick.

In five years’ time, the player has definitely gone on to improve further, and that’s why many top clubs were interested in signing him, including United’s local rivals, Manchester City.
In 156 games for Shakhtar, Fred responded with 14 goals. Jose needed a strong-headed midfielder to add more solidity in the side, and the Portuguese boss will believe that he has now found his man.
